The Latest Rendition of Spode

Portia Carroll July 31, 2020

When you look back at your childhood, I wonder what comes to mind to set the scene for your best memories…

For me, ever since I was little, when visiting my grandparent’s house where dressers were full of blue and white Spode, I’ve always yearned for that feeling of warmth in my own kitchen. I found it fascinating that these plates and serving dishes were actually used on an everyday basis, while often a jug or two were casually styled on a surface or window ledge holding a bunch of flowers from the garden. I’d imagine being in a position where I would have to longingly gaze at their beauty on a shelf awaiting a special occasion where they perhaps may emerge from their security. But to my amazement, we were always allowed to handle and enjoy the designs and utilise them fully; making each meal time much more special and more of an event.

Spode’s celebratory collection this year for the 250th anniversary is the Black Italian. Quite honestly, I had to double take, the first time I laid eyes on it. Isn’t it stunning?

The reinvention of this product in a black and white palette with brushed gold spoons to accompany, offers a contemporary take on the traditional design, creating a timeless feel. Beginning the day by sipping from this Italian rendition of Spode is as chic and stylish as you can get.
